2. W.I.H.E. Festival - Peter Houtzager - Plumpton, England
"Why I Ate England - 1"
by Dutch Peter
I ate England heart and soul.
I ate the woods, I ate the pubs, I ate and I ate. All the rambles, all the dogs, up in Scotland, down in Sussex, West in Cornwall, East not so much.
Not the Tories, not the Labour -- they I could not ate. Not the New Haven, not the weird puffing pudding. Not the slugs nor the snails. They I did not ate.
Fall, Spring, and Summer I ate, Winter not so much.
I ate the pheasant, the venison. I ate best bitter, the crisps, and rain.
Plants I cannot name; neighbours with no shame. The Zinda, the Rose, the ook, and that little weird crispy thing. Them I ate and ate, by-the-by. But please don't ask me why.
Peter Houtzager standing.
